So now that we have reached agreement on something, I suggest we drop this line of debate. Can you agree about this as well? Hey wait! I haven't even gotten to respond to your investigatory interrogation of my childhood yet. Let's see...first, my mom didn't go to college until I was about 10. When I went to magnet schools in the City, my parents applied just like every other family did. She didn't work for SLPS then but did many years later. Then, we moved to Kirkwood when she worked there. She taught at an elementary school and I went to the high school. It was a big district, and it wasn't that big a deal that I had a mom who worked at another school. As for special treatment, you can ask Signguy if he thought I received any. We were classmates. PS: Condolences on you feeling like your own children are "salivating" over your money. That must suck. I don't pretend to be a high roller, but my wife and I are lucky enough to be better off financially than my parents are now and much better off than they were when I was growing up. Billiken Rich
Will SLUH make the top 144 this year? I'm guessing they'll be ranked 121......

In the interest of saving this thread, two items: Center Ice Brewery is now open and appears to be doing well so far. They will be running a shuttle to and from Blues games when the hockey season starts. I've been tracking the progress of Wellspent on social media and based on early buzz from their test batches at fests and other events, I would expect very, very good things out of this place. These are/will be excellent pre- and postgame places for SLU fans.

That giant sucking sound will be all those that can, moving to Jefferson, Franklin, St Charles, and Warren counties.........I love Saint Louis but I will not be pushed any further down the rabbit hole of one party governance....... Then I'd invite you to move to Douglas County, Missouri. They say it was named after Stephen A Douglas but I think it really was for Monroe Douglas. Beautiful place. You'd love it. Completely Republican controlled in every way and has been for a while. No nanny-state there, no sir. And it has worked out great for them too. Bottom 5 in GDP, bottom 5 in per capita and median family income, 97% white, and a shrinking population. Yep, the Republicans are just killing it down there without those meddling democrats or independents. Jason Bateman might even make a show about them soon. Billiken Rich
I don't need to go that far out to find a county with at least the possibility of two viable parties acting as a check on the more wacky instincts of our legislators..... What county do you have in mind with two viable parties? Certainly not St. Chuck. I suppose some of the rural counties, like Sainte Gen, still have Dixiecrats at the local level who haven't started calling themselves Republicans yet. Is that what you're looking for? johnbj14
My two cents based on no info, other than them going dark on all social outlets, is that Humphrey's will probably not be re-opening. Likely will go the way of the Shack and sit vacant. As a student it sucks not having a truly college bar with some character, but life moves on. Old guy
hsmith, I thought we had left all of these politics behind in this thread, but it appears that you have them firmly stuck in your behind and cannot be rid of them. For cases like this an enema is always a reasonably effective way to start treatment, although you are so stuck with the stuff that it may take more than one to relieve you of your burden. Enjoy the experience, believe it or not some people do. Oh, almost forgot, a fleet's enema is the most convenient way to start treatment, they are available in all pharmacies and the cost is quite reasonable, they are also small, not like the half gallon of saline solution they used in the old days. Yes, when I was young and us irrelevant boomers were going to change the world... Toots

Old guy
No difference bud, just wait to get older, a lot older, and you will, almost as a law of nature, experience the whole gamut of experiences life has in store for every single one of us. One of the very worst ones I had was when my son was found dead and decomposed in his apartment, he was 26 and lived in another state. I do not wish that on anyone, not you or anyone else. So please try the enema and keep politics out of the thread, it is much more pleasant that way.

Band Legend
Old Guy, sorry for your loss. That being said, you need to cut it out. If you and hsmith want to pm to continue hurling insults, that's fine. As far as knowledge and intelligent discussion on urban planning is concerned, hs is bringing way more to the table than you are. When you get to be my age you may indeed be able to enter a discussion of what it feels to have dead and decomposed children of your own. Until then I think it is time for a mutual ignore.
