Last I heard they had ditched plans for the movie theater and entertainment complex and were planning mostly office space. Not a huge shock, but still too bad. Deutschkind
So the incident today is over. There were no shots fired, and the "possible hand gun" was a rubber-band toy gun. In case anybody missed it: DPS sent out an alert that there might be a person with a gun in Spring Hall (new dorm). A few minutes later, someone reported gunshots near Marchetti East. DPS just released a statement that there were no shots reported, and that they investigated the suspect in Spring Hall, and it was just a guy with a toy gun. We have confirmed that the toy gun seen in Spring Hall was part of an assignment in the Aerospace and Mechanical “Engineering Manufacturing Procedures” class. The assignment, intended to have students build a working device with interchangeable parts, was to make toy rubber band guns. The instructor gave the students several options for projects, but says the students unanimously chose to make the rubber band guns. The instructor says he warned the students not to display them out of class. However, at least one student created a very realistic toy gun and openly carried it into his residence hall. This led to today’s alerts and understandable concern and fear on campus. All of the students who made the rubber band guns are being informed tonight to place the toy guns in a closed container and bring them to the Parks College Dean’s Office first thing tomorrow. All of the toy guns will then be destroyed. This is the first time toy guns have been made in this class, and it will be the last. The University understands how much anxiety this issue created today and will ensure it does not happen again.
brianstl
I think SLU needs to start a rubber band gun buy back program. That will be the only way to keep the campus safe.

Mutually assured destruction worked in the Cold War and it just might work here. The big concern here would be proliferation of these massively destructive rubber band weapons. Old guy
Yes, and they are planning to bring out new models with .357 magnum strength rubber bands that will tip the balance. We need to increase funding to counter this threat right now!
