It looks like the idea of converting the Amory into an ice rink facility is at least gaining some steam among the urbanist crowd.  If the Blues are going to get $100+ million in public money, the city should at least ask for something substanial in teturn.

I am a hockey Dad.  My son has been to every rink in St. Louis as well as Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Nashville, Kansas City...  Have never seen kids dragging large hockey bags onto Metro Link.  And while we would drive to any nearby ice rink, I don't know why the Armory would be any better than Maryland Heights --- to the hockey families and kids.  In fact, driving downtown and parking in what is still a rough part of town benefits whom?  city dwellers and urban planners or hockey families?

Don't get me wrong.  Bringing an ice rink to Midtown and SLU would be great.  Converting our Armory like Messier plan in the Bronx would be great. And while this would be a start and while a start needs to happen, what has the City of St. Louis done for the benefit of young sports families in the last 40 years?  Soccer fields, baseball complexes, football, etc.??

I always thought that would be a great spot for a brewery. Much better than the Olive-facing storefront that Buffalo Brewing used to inhabit.

Rant warning: This UNews article came off really whiny shortsighted to me but I thought it was pertinent to the topic. http://www.unewsonline.com/2016/09/01/spring-hall-opens-other-sites-neglected/

As I approach the twilight of my 20's, I try to avoid falling into that trap of becoming the old, cranky alumnus. But seriously? The beautification that SLU has done to its campus just since I have left in 2010 is amazing. The new dorms are game changers. Grand hall is going to create a new quad and bring traffic to a part of the campus no one ever went over to.

Concerning the vacant lots, what is SLU supposed to do? Run simultaneous expensive construction projects all across midtown?

Kids these days...

SLU is in a bit of a financial pickle from what I understand. I don't know all the details but from what I've heard I don't think the money is set to last very long if they don't make some serious changes.

Whiny, maybe.  Poorly researched, definitely.

That rendering for the new hospital shows it not occupying the same space as the remaining 2 buildings of the Pevely complex. No idea what they plan to do wit the corner lots. Maybe add a matching fountain to go along with the one in front of the Doisy Research Building
