VTIME
5'10 pg from Portageville MO, and current Mineral Area guard is unsigned. He was named a 3rd team JUCO All-American. VTIME
I think you do. Local kid from Portageville MO, 3rd team JUCOAll-American. Not listed on rivals or scouthoops.com. A sleeper.
Nate Latsch
V, Do you like Hassell more than you like Dwayne Polk? - Nate
VTIME
More than the current Polk, yes, more than the high school Polk, NO!!! The current Polk just wont shoot. In the summertime in Bonner League he hits NBA 3 pointers with guys hanging all over him, but wont shoot a couple months later SLU games. I just dont understand it. He can shoot until he puts that uniform on. Hassell is a scorer. Great handle. He played in the Missouri vs Illinois All-star game as a late invitee when Marcus Walker declined back in 2005. He's a player. I'd forgotten about him assuming he had offers, but I hadnt really heard any buzz, but I see now that he's a 3rd team All-American at the JUCO level. Definite sleeper. I would offer him.
Nate Latsch
If you google search Hassell, you'll find that he turned down a couple D-1 offers as a high school senior (SEMO, Arkansas State and somebody else) to try to go to Missouri. When that didn't work out, he went the JUCO route. I don't remember him from that all-star game a few years ago. - Nate
VTIME
It was the same game with Matt Akins, Alex Barnett, Matt Lawrence, amongst others. I think Demario Smith won the dunk contest that year. Yeah, Hassell played, he wasnt on the official roster, but during pregram introductions they announced that he was a late addition to fill-in for Marcus Walker. I'll take him. He averaged double figures as a freshman at junior college too, so this year wasnt a fluke. This is a serious sleeper. He's uncommitted, maybe because of his size, but he is a 3rd team All-American and worth the risk. He's spent his whole life in Missouri and might as well finish his career as a Billiken. mackim56
I have been watching Hassell for two years and I would take him in a heartbeat. Big rival of MG and Three Rivers, had some big games agaist us. Great shooter, very fast, will take it to the hole, plays much bigger than 5' 10". Can't remenber who has been recruting mim but will see what I can find.
3star_recruit
Sounds like former UAB star Mo Finley. He'd be a great fit in an uptempo offense.
mackim56
Have not seen a up-date but early in year Willie was being recruited by Montana State, SEMO, Tenn-Martin and Henderson State. Will try and get a up-date.
VTIME
I really dont know how he got lost in the shuffle. Should be able to step right in and start and SEMO is the only other local school you would have to beat for his services.

V, love your posts, but there is not a single basketball player in the Western hemisphere that gets lost in the shuffle. They are tracked closely by a few to many people. This guy must not be a DI difference maker. No big deal.
boomerang
Semo is not recruiting Hassell. They recruited him 2 years ago, he said no thanks, they moved on. Semo signed a Juco guard from Iowa, Hassell won't be at Semo. He'll likely be at either UALR, UT-Martin or D2 Henderson St.
VTIME
why not SLU. Why should a 3rd team all-american settle?
mackim56
From what I'am hearing University of Ar at Little rock {UALR} is front runner for Hassell and John Fowler, both at Mac Juco. Heard SEMO not in picture anymore -- just what I heard.
marcus aurelius
He's not lost in the shuffle. I think most D1 programs are afraid to take a chance on a 5'9"-5-10" shooting guard. Willie is definitely a 2-guard, offensively. He's probably better suited to guard the point though. He's strong and explosive, so I think he could still get a lot done at the next level in spite of his stature, but that could really vary from game to game depending on matchups. VTIME
He's still a 3rd team All-American. If he cant go to good D1, then why should guys who didnt perform up to his level. Tujuan Porter is definitely a shooting guard at 5'6 and he plays in the Pac 10.
