Fordham to the ACC?
A-10 Message Board -
Fri, 08/27/2010 - 14:17
I found this gem on the Fordham message board. Don't laugh too hard, but in a column in the Georgia Tech school newspaper, the Opinions Editor named Fordham as his "dark-horse" candidate for ACC expansion.
Below are excerpts from the piece. nb: Fordham isn't "based in Brooklyn." The University has campuses in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Westchester County.
With constant talk of conference expansion and realignment...the ACC must move quickly to avoid being lost in the shuffle.
A dark-horse, off-the-beaten-path candidate, which should not be overlooked, is Fordham. Hear me out on this one. For those asking what is Fordham: it is a Jesuit college based in Brooklyn. They have a decent basketball history, and their football team has played in both the Cotton and Sugar Bowls, albeit both appearances were during World War II.
They offer the New York market, and their basketball team would be competitive in a few short years with the ACC brand to recruit the New York talent. Their football stadium leaves a lot for the heart to desire, but with ACC money they should have the means to build one, or potentially use Yankee Stadium.
Ideally, the ACC would get the three Big East schools, Vandy and Fordham and lose N.C. State.

Head Coaches?

What does everybody think of their team's head coach? Are you confident he's the guy to lead the team to bigger and better things?
Rick Majerus, SLU
Majerus can win with less talented players because of his system. Now that talent is less of an issue, I expect him to get more out of the team and take SLU to places they haven't been in awhile. I think he brought in a great class this year, and with the returning cast, there is little doubt that this team is headed in the right direction.

I sure hope that Snipe has saved enough money to come to the State Fair of Texas this year. There are two new products that have his name all over them.

Flyers to Play in 3 Early-Season Tournaments

Flyers Land a Spot in 2013 Maui Invitational (Doug Harris - August 25, 2010)
UD also has committed to play in Charleston Classic in 2012 and Old Spice Classic next year.
DAYTON — Hanging in the University of Dayton basketball coaches office is a laminated tournament bracket from the 2003 Maui Invitational, autographed by the players and staff.
The Flyers, who won the event that year in Brian Gregory’s maiden season as coach, are Hawaii-bound again and will have a chance to adorn another wall with souvenir just like it.
They’ll play in the 2013 Maui Invitational, which is hosted by Division II Chaminade University and has an eight-team field that includes schools from each of the six power conferences.
The Flyers also have committed to play in the 2012 Charleston (S.C.) Classic and the 2011 Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Fla. All three events are held in late November and are either run by ESPN or receive expansive coverage on the network.
“This really aggressively attacks two things we want to continue to do, and that’s to have an opportunity to play these high-caliber teams and also get on national TV,” Gregory said.
The fields in those events have yet to be announced, but Maui reserves room for just one team outside the Bowl Championship Series conferences. This year’s field includes Kentucky, Michigan State and UConn.
“I think it’s great for our players to play in a tournament format like that, and it’s great for our fans — we travel extremely well,” said Gregory, whose team received strong backing while finishing fourth in the Puerto Rico Tip-off Classic last season and winning the Chicago Invitational Challenge two years ago. “It’s been a good formula for us.”
UD Athletic Director Tim Wabler said three straight postseason trips, including an NIT title run, has helped the Flyers raise their profile as a program.
“We’re a very attractive team right now,” he said.

Is "Tu" Holloway Retarded?

Quote: Junior Terrell Holloway is no longer on the Xavier basketball roster; Xaviers leading returning scorer and assist man is now officially known as Tu (pronounced two) Holloway.
I had the nickname Tu Tu beginning when I was about four years old. It changed to just Tu when I was in high school. Nobody calls me Terrell anymore. Everybody calls me Tu, Holloway said.
Tu has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches, said Xavier coach Chris Mack. His name is as unique as his talent and potential. I think he is one of the best point guards in the nation. For us to be as good as we want to be, he has to embrace the responsibility and work that comes with those expectations. I know he is ready for the challenge.
Tu Holloway, a candidate for the Bob Cousy Award as the nations top point guard, is Xaviers leading returning scorer (12.1 ppg.) and assist man (3.9 apg.) from a team that won its fourth straight Atlantic 10 Conference Regular Season Championship and advanced to the 2010 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. XU also advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Holloways freshman season of 2008-09. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/xavier/2...medium=twitter
